At the Sign Language Research Center, we are working towards a better understanding of historical change in signed languages. Our ultimate goal is to build a digital library to store and access historical and modern sign language data from a variety of related sign languages.Eventually, modern forms and related forms from other sign languages will be added to the database and linked to the hisotrical ASL signs. This system will constitute no only a unique database of historical ASL data, but a powerful comparative tool for use by linguists, humanists and other researchers.
